ALPY is a new modular product line for spectroscopy.
ALPY allows progressive investment with separate spectrograph, guiding and calibration modules. It is multi-purpose (on a bench or with a telescope; slit, slitless or with an optical fiber connector; visual use, with CCD camera or digital SLR...) and very easy to use with minimum adjustements to make.
ALPY is an efficient system with, for the Alpy 600, a spectral domain from near-UV to near-IR with a resolution around 10A.
The core element of the ALPY product line is the Alpy 600 spectrograph. With a 600gr/mm grism (grating + prism), Alpy 600 offers compactness, low resolution (resolving power R~600) and a dispersion compatible with the current CCD cameras used in astronomy.
The spectrograph is F/5.
The ALPY product line has been designed around standard mechanical threads (M42x075, SM1, SM05) to facilitate integration with your existing instrumentation.
The ALPY product line also includes a separate guiding module (mirror slit 23µm) and a calibration module with neon/argon and tungsten lamps. These make it a complete solution for astronomical spectroscopy, but each module is independent, making ALPY unique and revolutionary.
Progressive investment ("à la carte")
You have the choice of which module to purchase based on your budget and need. You can then upgrade your equipment over time through further investment. Discover slit based spectroscopy with the Alpy 600 base module which will bring you a lot of possible observation on a workbench or at your telescope. Complete your investment with a guiding module, allowing longer exposures with your CCD camera to reach fainter targets. Then add a calibration module to get easier and more accurate wavelength calibration (neon/argon) and flats (tungsten).
Beyond the modularity between the Alpy 600 spectrograph and guiding and calibration modules, the spectrograph itself is versatile and multi-purpose.
It is able to interface with most CCD cameras with a standard M42x0.75mm thread. A C-mount adapter is available as well as a barlow lens element specially designed for Digital SLRs, extending the backfocus and enlarging the spectrum.
The removable standard slit includes multiple positions (25µm hole; 25µm, 50µm, 100µm or 300µm slits; 5µm tolerance) with a clear position (3mm hole) for a slitless mode.
A "fiber connector" mounting is also available so Alpy 600 is compatible with our optical fiber eShel solution.
Last but not least, Alpy 600 is also a visual spectroscope (with or without slit) with an optional widening lens element. View lamps or the solar spectrum with Alpy 600 alone, look for the spectra of stars or nebulae spectra using the Alpy 600 as an eyepiece on your telescope (diameter 31.75mm).

For example, the Alpy 600 optics have been specially designed for this spectrograph, giving an excellent quality spectrum through all the visible domain from near-UV (Balmer serie, astonishing H&K lines) to near-IR (calcium triplet).

We designed the spectrograph with Christian Buil, a higly recognized optician expert. The software module has been written by Michel Pujol, an expert in Tcl/Tk and AudeLA platform. They both complement our expertise to bring you the best solution in echelle spectroscopy for astronomy!
Choice of optical fibre has been made to increase radial velocities measurement accuracy and for a better confort in using the eShel.

The Lhires Lite spectroscope is based on Shelyaks own experience in scientifical animation. It has been specifically designed to be easy to use, robust, and without danger. It attaches directly on a photographic tripod (Kodak standard).
Lhires Lite is specially well adapted for the public. Show them the solar spectrum at his best: thousands lines are visible!
Show your public the solar spectrum like they have never seen. Sodium doublet is well split with forest of lines everywhere. Explain how the professional astronomers use the same technic to measure stellar composition, temperature, pressure...

Lhires Lite slit is manufactured by Shelyak. It is a center piece for the quality of the spectrum obtained with the spectroscope.

Everyone's eyes are not the same. This is why we are including an adjustable eyepiece with the Lhires Lite spectroscope. It is easy to use and well adapted for children.
The Lhires Lite spectroscope includes several scale's you can use to help identifying the lines either in the solar spectrum or spectral lamp. You can also create your own or use a blank paper for the students to draw the spectrum they see and compare with reference scales.

Lhires III spectrograph has been designed for small telescope (typically 8" f/10 telescope) and is then perfectly adapted for backyard astronomy. It can be setup in numerous instruments and you can use several type of CCD camera, webcam, or SLR cameras to record your own spectra.
But Lhires III is also a perfect tool for studying the sky. Students from several universities are learning from this spectrograph. Its design is powerful but simple and one can easily open it to see inside. Assembling the spectrograph is also very educational. Easy to use, it allows practical astrophysic on small telescopes.
Lhires III can be used visually, which makes it a great educational tool during astronomy days and public observing sessions. Without a telescope, it enables the observor to watch, safely, solar spectra in very high resolution.
With a video camera or a webcam and a small instrument, Lhires III becomes a spectro-heliograph. One can then image the Sun in multiple wavelength (Ha, HeI, K...) using a scanning technique.

Easy to use
With the mirror slit, the Lhires III is very easy to use and allow to center and maintain the target into the slit with great precision. A simple webcam allow to guide on bright star. You get the full control of the operation during the exposure and you do not need a state of the art mount to do spectrography!
A multi usage instrument
Almost all CCD cameras, SLR cameras, or simple webcam can be mounted on a Lhires III.

Lhires III is shipped with a 2400 lines/mm grating. Other gratings are available in option. They are shipped with their support and protective metal & plastic boxes. Those gratings modules allow to adapt your spectrograph resolution to your project.

Lhires III comes with a Schmidt Cassegrain Telescope adapter. We also have 2" adapter if you need.
The spectrograph also comes with a standard T thread that allow you to mount any SLR with a standard T-ring. It also comes with an eyepiece holder.
Short FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q: Do I have to select an optional grating when I order?
A: This is optional. The spectrograph provided is fully functional and includes a 2400 lines/mm grating with support. Optional gratings are made available to reach additional projects that require lower resolution.
