Skywatcher Evostar 120ED DS-PRO (OTA)

The new EVOSTAR DS-PRO Series ED Apochromatic refractors in their stunning Black-Diamond livery, house premium optics of the same quality and performance level as our now legendary Equinox series, making them superb instruments for both imaging and visual observations.

Apochromatic Refractors, due to their unobstructed, text-book like diffraction patterns, produce the sharpest, highest quality optical imaging available, bar-none, aperture for aperture, of any telescope optical system.

These high-end telescopes all feature a doublet objective lens. One element is made from premium Japanese Ohara FPL-53 Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass, which virtually eliminates chromatic aberration to deliver true colour reproduction. Top quality Schott glass is utilized for the Crown element.

Each air-to-glass lens surface has exotic anti-reflection metallic coatings applied, to ensure optimum light through-put of approaching 99.5%!!

The proprietary Sky-Watcher “Metallic High-Transmission Coatings” (MHC) are the finest photon anti-rejection coatings in their class.

The new Equinox 120 features Japanese Ohara FPL-53 fluorite glass housed in a superbly engineered tube-assembly with a dual-speed silky-smooth rotatable Crayford focuser.

The Equinox 120 also benefits from the use of Schott glass for the positive front Crown element in the objective. Schott is the recognized world leader in glass utilized for precision optical lens systems, including medical instrumentation, and famous-brand camera lenses.
Each objective is finished by hand and undergoes both a Ronchi and artificial star test.

The same First-Class optics as the Evostar-ED PRO models are now housed in tube assemblies of even higher quality. The tubes are Precision CNC machined & Hard Anodized and feature superb rotatable, tension adjustable Dual-Speed Crayford focusers and Retractable Dewshields. These are exceptionally high Performance telescopes for Planetary and Widefield Deep-sky observations as well as Astrophotography and CCD imaging. Additionally, these telescopes provide outstanding results for Birdwatching and general terrestrial use.

First-Class Optics
Built with two-element multi-coated air-spaced objectives, the second element is made of the highest grade extra-low dispersion (ED) Japanese FPL-53 (Equinox 80) and FPL-51 (Equinox-66) fluorite glass.
Extra-low Dispersion glass allows the optical designer to virtually eliminate chromatic aberration (false color fringing around bright objects), which results in higher resolution and superior contrast in the images.
Each objective lens is finished by hand by skilled opticians and the quality of each telescope is monitored by means of a Ronchi test and an artificial star test. No effort is spared to reach optimal optical quality.
