Explore Scientific ED APO 80mm f/6 Deluxe FCD-100 Hex-Focus
Building on the success of the original FCD-1 ED triplets from Explore Scientific, Telescope House are now pleased to offer their new FCD-100 Apos, offering even better colour correction. Thes FCD-100 designs offer a polystrehl value of 0.979 - a level of correction that is absolutely top of the line.
Apochromats are the ultimate choice in small to medium sized telescopes: the combination of compactness, transportability, very high image contrast and sharpness together with the possibility to make excellent astrophotos cannot be bested. The advances in glass manufacturing during the last few years have made true apochromats available to more astronomy enthusiasts than ever before. The new Explore Scientific FCD-100 Alu Hex represents another major improvement in this field - the overall correction (color and spherical) is setting new standards in this price class. The optical design shows a typical polystrehl value of 0.979, an absolutely first class measurement.
This small excellent apochromat is a very versatile telescope: the fast f-ratio makes short exposure times possible for astrophotographic use. The high contrast and sharpness of the image provide breathtaking views of large objects like the North America Nebula or the Andromeda Galaxy, as well as tack sharp planetary images. The telescope is lightweight and compact - the dew shield slides down the tube to minimize size for transportation and storage. This does not only qualify this telescope as the ideal travel scope, it is also the perfect choice for fast observations and for astrophotography. The excellent 2.5" HEXAFOC focuser with 10:1 reduction is perfect for this - and the large inner diameter of 65mm minimises vignetting when used with cameras with large sensors.

Building on the success of the original Explore Scientific 127 Triplet Apo and the Carbon Fibre versions, Explore Scientific now release their best ever value 5-inch telescope: the Explore Scientific ED APO 127mm f/7.5 Essential.
The Essential series are "bare bones" versions of the Explore Scientific Apos - they still have the exquisite optics of the original triplets, including Japanese Hoya FCD1 Dense Fluorcrown and Explore's Special EMD™ enhanced multi-layer coatings on every optical surface for the utmost in colour-free performance and still have the high strength aluminium tubes, internal baffling systems and hyper-blackened edges for the ultimate in contrast. However, the Essential Series Triplets leave it up to you to provide Finders and other accessories - passing on the savings to you as a result. A standard ES 127 triplet costs in excess of £1600, whereas the Essential 127mm is just £1299.
The Explore Scientific ED APO 127mm f/7.5 Essential sports the new hybrid Rack and Pinion/Crayford Focusers from Explore featuring a dual focus locking system and a 10:1 dual speed focus control. In addition to this the optical tube assembly comes with Vixen-profile mounting bar and rings, featuring a handle with camera mounting rail.
Focal length: 952mm
Net weight 9.5kg w/o tube rings
Optical tube assembly with rings
Handle with camera mounting feature
Focuser with 10:1 reduction
The Explore ED127 Essential Edition telescope comes with a white aluminum tube with black accents.
Explore Scientific Air-Spaced Apochromatic Triplets have true APO optic and are diffraction limited at .25PV or better
Genuine ED glass from Hoya Japan is used on all ED APO Triplets at Explore, for superb quality and light throughput
Enhanced Multi-Layer Coatings (EMD) are deposited on optical elements to boost contrast and eliminate light scatter; and contrast is further enhanced with the installation of matte black knife-edge baffles in the optical tube assembly.
While refractors seldom require additional collimation after initial factory adjustment, the lens cell design allows for consumer collimation. Sending your ED127 Triplet off to the factory is always an option, but is not required.
127mm models come with a heavy-duty 2" dual-speed rotatable focuser, including 2 draw tube extensions.
Dedicated Field Flattener available as an optional extra in both 2 and 3-inch options.
Explore Scientific ED APO 102mm f/7 Deluxe FCD-100 Hex-Focus
Apochromatic refractors are the ultimate choice in small to medium sized telescopes: their combination of compactness, transportability, very high image contrast and sharpness, together with their astrophotographic performance is hard to beat. The advances in glass manufacturing during the last few years have made true apochromats available to more astronomy enthusiasts than ever before. The new Explore Scientific FCD-100 Carbon Hex represents another major improvement in this field - the overall correction (color and spherical) sets new standards in this price class. The optical design shows a polystrehl value of 0.97, indicating a level of correction that is absolutely first class.
This excellent apochromat is a very versatile telescope: its fast f-ratio optimaises your time under the stars collecting data for imaging purposes. The high contrast and sharpness of the images you'll take will provide breathtaking views of large-area objects like the North America Nebula or the Andromeda Galaxy, as well as tack sharp planetary and lunar images (we'd recommend using one of the very fine Explore Scientific Focal Extender Barlows for this). The telescope is lightweight and compact - putting less stress on a mount. The Explore Scientific's dew shield slides down the tube enabling a very compact package for both transportation and storage purposes. This qualifies this telescope as the ideal "grab and go" observer's instrument, when partnered with a mount such as the Explore Scientific Twilight I Alt/Az mount.
The Explore Scientific ED APO 102mm f/7 Deluxe FCD-100 Hex-Focus features the excellent 2.5" focuser with 10:1 reduction. The 10:1 dual speed gear ratio makes finding a very fine focus easy. The Hexfoc's large inner diameter of 65mm prevents vignetting when the telescope is used for astrophotography with cameras with large sensors.
